Maximizing Your Day: The Power of Setting Intentions

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

Have you ever gotten out of bed, angry at the alarm, declaring, "this day is gonna suck," and then day proceeded to suck? And I mean, SUCK, big time! Do you think that's a coincidence? I don't. I believe that each morning, each day, each moment, we have an opportunity to call out our hopes and beliefs for what we expect to happen in our lives. Sometimes we call in defeat, guilt, sadness and shame. Other times, we proclaim victory, pride, hope and peace. Either way, we are setting our intention.

An intention is a simple statement of what you want to achieve or experience. It can be as specific or as general as you like. Setting an intention for your day is a powerful way to manifest the type of day you want to have. When you set an intention, you are putting your energy into creating that outcome. You are also telling your subconscious brain what to focus on. In a nutshell, you're being intentional about the words you speak so as to limit ideas of passivity, negativity and lack from your existence.

Taking time to set an intention for your day, or even throughout the day is highly beneficial. Whether you're hoping to crush that presentation at work or tackle that mound of laundry you've been avoiding, setting an intention about the tasks ahead can greatly impact the outcome. Setting your intention may help with:

  • Increased focus and clarity. When you set an intention for your day, you are giving yourself a clear direction to follow. This can help you to focus on your goals and avoid distractions.

  • Increased motivation and productivity. When you are focused on your goals, you are more likely to be motivated and productive. This is because you have a clear purpose in mind.

  • Reduced stress and anxiety. When you know what you want to achieve, you are less likely to feel stressed and anxious. This is because you have a plan and you are confident in your ability to achieve your goals.

  • Increased sense of well-being. When you are living in alignment with your intentions, you are more likely to feel happy and fulfilled. This is because you are living your life on purpose.

Of course, setting an intention sounds great but many people think it's hard to do. It's not. Quite simply, you tell the universe what you expect from it and then watch it unfold. You're basically walking into your day expecting the outcome that you've set out to achieve. This doesn't mean that life won't throw you curveballs or accidents won't happen. But by setting your intention, you're being clear about what you ant and your intent to achieve the desired outcome, believing that whatever happens, will be favorable. And how could it not, with that attitude.
